Dress Code

Proper clothing is necessary for success in any athletic event, and dance is no different! Clothing should be comfortable, easy to move in, and allow the instructor to see the dancer's form. To give your dancer the best experience, please send them in the suggested attire:

- Form fitting shirt or leotard (no crop tops)
- Leggings or shorts
- Correct dance shoes (see class descriptions for required shoes)*
- Hair pulled back, out of face (ponytail, braid, bun, etc.)
- Absolutely NO JEWELRY!
- A designated "dance bag" to keep their belongings in

Please no low cut, strapless or mid-drift tops. Bottoms should adequately cover the dancer's rear. If sending dancer in a dress, please be sure that it comes above the knee (in order to see their form) and that they wear shorts, leggings or bloomers underneath.

Our favorite place to shop for dancewear is Discount Dance! Click here to shop!

Hair should ALWAYS be out of the face. Even those with shorter hair should pin back anything that will fit into a hair tie or bobby pins. Should we need to provide a hair accessory for your dancer, your account will be charged $0.25.

* Dance shoes are NEVER to be worn outside! Not only will this cause the shoes to wear much quicker, but it will track unwanted dirt and germs into our studio space. Many dancers lie on the floor during choreography, and we also have baby and toddler classes full of rollers and crawlers! Please keep dance shoes stored safely in a dance bag and have your dancer change upon arriving in the studio. Thank you for your cooperation!

Conduct

-Please be on time! If your dancer is late, they will miss part of or all of stretch/warm up--the most important part of class, resulting in their inability to physically participate in the remainder of class!
-Wear the proper attire
-No food
-No gum
-ONLY WATER (no Stanley mugs or open cups, please!)
-No cell phones or other electronics
-Respect the teacher, classmates & studio
-No horseplay
-No foul language
-Absolutely NO BULLYING; students and family members exhibiting this type of behavior will be permanently dismissed from our studio. Everyone should be made to feel welcome here!

First Day of Class

- A TDM Waiver & Release Form must be filled out by any caregiver attending a "Mommy & Me" style class prior to attending their first class/event (these documents have already been taken care of for the child at registration, so you only need to fill in your own name or the name of the caregiver attending class with the child). Participation in any TDM activity is not allowed without this important document.
For your dancer's first day of class, we recommend planning to arrive 10-15 minutes prior to class start time. Sometimes, when a student arrives late to class on their first day, it can cause increased anxiety, which results in their experience not being as enjoyable as it could be. Please set your child up for success and be early! Check here for a detailed map of your dancer's class location. If you feel you will need more explanation than what is available on the website, please call us well in advance, and maybe even drive there a day or so before class so that you are familiar with the area.

- You can request to visit the studio space prior to their first day of class so that they can see the space and [potentially] meet their teacher in a more casual environment. (Note that this option may not always be available). Please contact us if you wish to schedule a tour/meeting.
- To better prepare your child for their first day (especially if they are younger), take the time to sit with them and walk them through what their dance class may be like. For example:

"When you get to class, you will see other students just like you! You will get to meet your teacher, and I will give you a 'see you later' hug. But I will be there as soon as class is over!
You will get to make new friends, learn some dance moves, and have a lot of fun! When class is over, I will meet you right outside of the class room and I will be excited to hear all about what you learned!"

Please reach out if it would be helpful to have more specifics to add to your explanation. We have found that giving children a list of expectations can really help them feel more comfortable about attending their first class.
- Be sure to review our Dress Code and Code of Conduct with your dancer prior to their first day of class. If you don't have shoes by the first day of class, don't stress! Just get them as soon as you can. Your dancer can still participate without them.
- We have several studio policies, and we recommend that you read and familiarize yourself with them prior to your dancer's first day.

We are so very excited to have you join us at The Dance Method!
